4.5 mi — 2h 0m
:
Hiked to top and added Big Rock spur. Encountered a couple of bear hunters, glad I wore an orange hat.

Notes:
9 mi — 6h 0m
:
Parked at Craggy Gardens lot and took MST to Snowball Mountain trail. Went past former fire tower spot, went a little further, then turned back.
|
Notes:
Went up as part of a longer hike. Definitely a gut-grinder for the first two miles or so, then levels off until near the BRP, when it gets steep again

Notes:
3.5 mi — 2h 42m
:
Nearly one year later, went back with the family. Snowing, but this time a great view up top.
|
Notes:
11 mi — 4h 42m
:
Hiked route counterclockwise beginning at the Rock Castle Gorge Overlook parking lot. Eastern section is very challenging, lots of slippery leaves.
|
Notes:
6.4 mi — 4h 56m
:
Three hours up to Blue Ridge Parkway, two back. Socked in with fog, so no views. Very steep on way up and slippery on way down.
|
Notes:
11.9 mi — 4h 44m
:
Just as Jason described. Easy to follow, a good, solid hike. Plenty of ninja roots and rocks to catch one's feet.
|
Notes:
11.3 mi — 5h 55m
:
Long uphill grind with good views. Bring plenty of water in the summer, as opportunities to fill up are few and far between. Watch for downhill bikers
|
Notes:
3.7 mi — 2h 23m
:
Snow at the trailhead, even more snow at the top, up to my knees at points. Zero vis due to fog.
|
Notes:
8.8 mi
:
Ran the purple trail, the red trail, and some of the yellow trail. Surface is great, but blazes could be better, e.g., more signage at road crossings.
|
Notes:
9.3 mi — 5h 6m
:
Mileage was long due to us going further than the main route. Lots of leaves with razor-sharp edges, I suggest wearing long pants in the summer.
|
Notes:
7.4 mi — 2h 53m
:
Hiked it in reverse, so the singletrack was all in the beginning. That sinkhole is no joke.
