Description
This trail is confusing at first. Do some research, bring a GPS, the
Hiking Project mobile app, or a paper map so that you get onto the right trail: Cascade Path.
You'll work your way through a neighborhood and up what looks like an old ski trail to get to the beginning of the woodsy section of the path. This is a nice little one-mile section of classic New England hardwood forest with a lot of roots and rocks to negotiate. A descent indicates you are close to the river. Here you'll see a bridge but do not cross it! It will take you to the Norway rapids.
Turn right onto a small trail staying on the right side of the river. A bit further, you'll have a chance to cross to the other side. There are three or four impressive waterfalls or cascades. When you get to a gravel road and a bridge, you can go back the way you came, take a right to go back down the Snows Mountain ski slope, or turn left to go to Avalanche Brook and
Norway Rapids.
Overall, this trail provides an enjoyable hike that is demanding but not too strenuous. The highlight is the section with the cascades.
