Section Of
Need to Know
There are no reliable water sources along this stretch. While the signs state there is a shelter (at Horn Mountain), there was no evidence that a shelter actually exists.
Description
This section (of the Pinhoti) starts at Bulls Gap and follows part of Forest Service Road 607. The trail turns off the road onto a singletrack and winds its way up the ridge. There aren't any reliable water sources along this stretch. The trail crosses into Talladega County, right before passing by the summit of Horn Mountain. Despite what's posted (on the signs), it doesn't appear that Horn Mountain Shelter actually exists, yet. The trail crosses over the Skyway Motorway, where there is a neat rock feature (on the right). The trail descends down to Jogloma Lake (signed as Scotts Lake), where there are a few campsites. There is also a small baptismal pool, at Dry Creek. The trail continues until it reaches the Porter's Gap Trailhead, where this section of the trail ends.
