Need to Know

Yellow Trail is a connecting trail in the Sutallee Trace, so plan your route accordingly and check your mileage before starting your trek.

Description

The Yellow Trail is a 1.0 mile point-to-point connector trail on the right after crossing the historic Frank Stone Bridge on White Trail from Boling Park and concludes at the connection with Purple Trail.

At the north end, as it meets Purple Trail, the trail continues for a short distance and is an emergency access point to Old Shoal Creek Trail Road. This is not part of the trail system or trailhead to the Sutallee Trace.

The trail from the bridge is mostly singletrack with varying terrain and can be narrow in some sections along the steep ridge and the creek below. The trail does have some steeper climbs out of the hollows along the creek but not too grueling for most hikers.

The trail skirts the edge of a clearcut for a short distance in the sun but is mostly surrounded by the shade of mixed hardwood forests and pines.

As you get closer to the end, the singletrack trail gives way to a wider trail amongst the pines and you'll know that you are getting close to the Purple Trail on the left.

Yellow Trail holds the remnants and the mystery of a prosperous industry that once took place along the banks of this creek and several others in Sutallee Trace. Keep an eye out for an old moonshine still site and let the imagination wander on how these early entrepreneurs or some might say outlaws, were kept one step ahead of the law enforcement.

From the Trace Stewards, please tread lightly and do not destroy or remove any historical remnants from the sites so that they can be discovered for future hikers on the trails.
