Overview

Rendezvous Mountain marks the highest point within Jackson Hole Ski Resort. If the mountain hasn't felt large while skiing it, it will hiking it. This route is also used for the Rendezvous Mountain Hillclimb, a literal breathtaking race up the mountain.

There are many ways to climb the mountain depending on your ambitions. The route described here ascends the mountain from the resort base to the top. The route links the Wildflower Trail that climbs the lower mountain face with the Cirque Trail which navigates the upper face through Rendezvous Bowl. The Arial Tram located at the top is free to take down, so this mapped route assumes an enjoyable hike down rather than descending the trail.

If big mountain ambitions are not your thing, consider taking the Bridger Gondola two thirds up the mountain and start on the Cirque Trail.

Need to Know

Check the tram schedule, and don't miss last tram!

Description

From the Bridger Gondola at the resort's base look for the Wildflower Trail sign and follow the trail as it crosses under the gondola. The Wildflower Trail begins to switchback, crossing between ski runs and patches of trees. The trail quickly breaks from adjacent downhill biking trails providing a bit more solitude. The grade is relatively sustained the entire time, with only a few breaks to sit down and rest. A nice long break with restrooms and food for purchase can be taken at the top of the Bridger Gondola.

From here, the alpine terrain begins. Find the Cirque Trail behind the lodge. The trail skirts the side of the headwall, the steep slope behind the lodge, before reaching the base of the upper cirque. Here the north face of Rendezvous Mountain looms above, exhibiting famous ski lines which sneak through couloirs in the face such as Corbet's and S&S. The trail navigates around the north face and into Rendezvous Bowl, switch-backing just off the mountain's east ridgeline to the summit.

Make sure you check the tram schedule and plan accordingly. It is a long hike down if you miss last tram.
