Overview

Inspiration Point and Hidden Falls are nestled near the outlet of Cascade Canyon offering easy access to Teton gems. Hidden Falls is an impressive water fall along Cascade Creek, and Inspiration Point pears out over Jenny Lake and Jackson Hole. There are many options for trails to reach these features in addition to a boat shuttle which crosses Jenny Lake. The easy access has made this hike the most popular in the park.

Although popular, visiting Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point should be high on your list if you are not planning on venturing up one of the more committing Teton trails. The sights can also be added to a loop of Jenny Lake, or on your way up Cascade Canyon.

Need to Know

Beware of black bears around Jenny Lake. They are accustomed to people and will approach you on the trail. Consider hiking in a group or turning around if a bear is on the trail.

Description

The Jenny Lake Trailhead is the busiest in the park. In addition to Inspiration Point and Hidden Falls, many backpacking and climbing trips start from this location. If parking is full, consider starting this hike from String Lake. If taking the Jenny Lake boat shuttle, arrive early or be ready to wait in line. The shuttle runs every 15 minutes and is open from 7am to 7pm during the busy months of summer. There is also the option to hike the way in and take the shuttle the way back. The shuttle cuts of 2 miles from the hike each way.

The route to Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point begins on paved trail. This crosses a bridge at the Jenny Lake boat dock, and then into the woods. The trail is mostly flat, with the occasional uphill. Keep your eyes out for black bears and moose, especially when you get close to the Moose Ponds. The black bears around Jenny Lake are comfortable with people and will approach you along the trail. Stay with your group or consider turning around to avoid confrontation.

The trail emerges out of the woods, skirting Jenny Lake offering scenic views of the lake most of the way. Once the trail enters back into the woods, look for a trail junction sign for Hidden Falls. Take a left here and follow the beaten trail along Cascade Creek. Just before the sturdy bridge that crosses Cascade Creek, take the trail that spurs left. Here you'll experience the view and spray of Hidden Falls. Continue across the bridge and up the switchbacks to Inspiration Point.

If you continue hiking on the trail after Inspiration Point, Cascade Canyon will open around you and fantastic views of Teewinot and Mt. Owen will appear. If not interested in continuing up the canyon, reverse your course back to the trailhead or take the boat shuttle back.
