Overview

This route follows all of the North Mountain National Trail to the top of the mountain and returns through the park to complete the loop. This hike is easily combined with a picnic or playtime in the park. It also makes a perfect morning or evening workout with some good elevation gain.

Need to Know

North Mountain Park closes at 7pm.

Description

The northern side of North Mountain National #44 is paved to the top, and is much less steep than the unpaved, rocky trail of the southern side. For that reason, most people prefer to take the loop clockwise, going up the steep trail and descending the paved path so it's easier on the feet and knees. You can start from any of the parking areas in North Mountain Park and proceed to the trailhead of your choosing.

Flora & Fauna

Cactus including saguaro, prickly pear, barrel cactus. Ocotillo, mesquites. And ground squirrels if you're lucky!
