Access to the state park is free, although it is only open during the day. The visitors center at the parking lot offers restrooms, water, and other amenities.

Low Gap Trail provides a variety of terrain and habitats to explore along a relatively easy singletrack trail winding through the northern portion of Cummins Falls State Park. The trail starts from the park's main parking lot, entering the woods near a fenced off retention pond. There is also an alternate access just west of the parking lot, and both trailheads have signs to assist with finding the path.

The first section of the trail winds through the woods, passing through a gully at about the 1/3 mile mark where a few stairs and a bridge offer an easy crossing over a small stream. After about a half mile the trail emerges into a meadow area where various mowed trails offer paths through the taller growth and signs offer hikers options to follow the trail through the middle of the meadow or divert onto the Lou Garrison Loop or the Dow Burgess Loop for alternate routes around the edges of the meadow.

Proceeding through the meadow, the trail passes a small pond with an overlooking gazebo and bench, then a picnic table under a shade tree, before reentering the woods along the edge of the clearing. Once back in the woods, the trail follows some ups and downs, and one can see the land drop away to the right down into the river gorge. At around the 1 mile mark, a small offshoot trail to the right leads to an overlook platform with a picnic table which offers some views down into the gorge, although obscured by trees. Past this overlook, the trail continues about 0.2 mile to another overlook at the top of a bluff with views along the canyon, although again obscured by vegetation. From here the hiker can retrace their steps back to the trailhead.
