Description
This trail leaves the
Wright Lakes Trail #5537 above Upper Wright Lake and climbs gently to the ridge south of Boulder Peak. There are excellent views of Mt. Shasta from this ridge. From here the
Boulder Peak Summit Spur goes north to the summit of the peak. There are excellent views in all directions from this summit.
Past its junction with the spur trail, the Second Valley Trail continues west and downhill and becomes increasingly vague as it descends. The trail reappears from time to time as it goes north along Second Valley Creek to its end at a junction with the Deep Lake Trail #5535.
The Second Valley Trail up to the ridge and the spur trail is obvious and easy to follow. On the west side of the ridge it is not obvious, not easy to follow, and good navigation is required to follow it to its junction with the much more popular Deep Lake Trail.
