Overview
Slide Lake is a great day hike or run. It passes through beautiful parks, by a waterfall, the pool at Fishbowl Springs, and ends at the scenic Slide Lake. Consider bringing your fishing gear up to Slide Lake. Views of Squaretop Mountain are rich through the first third of the trip. Reportedly the footbridge at Clear Creek was blown out, so either find a log to cross, or cross the creek upstream. Beware of high and fast water early season (June - July).
Need to Know
As per USFS rules:
1) Make sure to camp 200 feet from trails and water.
2) Dogs have to be leashed or under control (i.e. training collar or equivalent) at all times.
3) All food and attractants need to be suspended at least 10 feet high and 4 feet from a post or tree or stored inside a bear-resistant container.
4) Check current fire restrictions. Fire rings must be dismantled after use.
Description
Start at Green River Trailhead and cross the Green River via the sturdy bridge. Follow the
Highline #7094 trail, enjoying the views of Squaretop Mountain as the trail gently climbs, traversing the north side of Green River Lakes.
The trail diverges into the Clear Creek drainage at a junction near the end of Lower Green River Lake. Clear Creek Falls are seen just above. The trail then quickly enters the lush Clear Creek park. About half a mile up the trail, look for signs of the old footbridge or a good place to cross Clear Creek. Find the trail on the other side as it hugs the tree line on the other side of the park.
Now for the physically demanding part: The trail climbs the steep switchbacks alongside Slide Creek through the woods. The impressive Slide Creek, especially in the early season, cascades off to your right. Eventually the trail will ease for up for a bit at an open park. Another mile or so, and past Fish Bowl Spring, will get you to Slide Lake.
