Like other RWA trails, there are strict regulations in place to protect the water supply. An annual pass is required and the parking area is protected by a lock code.

This 3+ mile loop trail, blazed white but officially named the Mark Schaefer Trail (unfortunately no information about Mark Schaefer available online), is the main trail for the Maltby Lakes Regional Water Authority Recreation Area. Easily accessible from the main parking area, it loop primarily through forest with some unshaded grassy segments (mainly at the western end and avoided by detouring on purple.
