Overview

This easy trail traverses above a Muddy Creek, leading to an impressive display of ancient archeological artwork.

Need to Know

Visit archeological sites with respect. Touching rock art can damage the images. Please do not write or scratch anything onto the rock walls. Desecrating archeological sites is illegal.

Description

The trailhead is accessed by a decent dirt road off of U-10, traveling east to Moore, Utah. Look for signage for the Rochester Rock Art Panel. The parking area at the trailhead is large, but visiting the rock art panels is more enjoyable when fewer people are on the trail. Keep this in mind if you are hiking on a busy day.

From the east side of the parking area, follow the trail to its end overlooking Muddy Creek from a bench above the streambed. The trail follows the cliff band south, where you'll eventually go right, up to the saddle where walking is easy. The hike is a scenic half-mile.

The panel is incredible and full of images from different time periods. Some cultures dating back over 1,000 years left their mark here. You may also notice the more "recent" depictions of horses. Please visit the site with respect. Don't touch or add you own etchings to the panel. Unfortunately, there is already existing graffiti on the wall.

Enjoy studying the various images, as well as the view of the Muddy, then retrace your steps back to the parking area when ready.
