Overview

Combines trails from the south side of this trail network to form a 9 mile loop.

Need to Know

This is primarily a mountain biking trail network and destination. Be aware of that before coming. I went during the week in January and only saw a hiker and a father-son combo biking.

Description

Starting at the trailhead, take a right on the trails. The signs will say "wrong way" but those are intended for mountain bikes. The area has foot traffic going opposite of the bikes.

Start on Baby Bear and after a small distance, take a right onto Bomb Dog. Bomb Dog is a fun trail, fairly gentle and smooth with a gradual climb. I stayed on Bomb Dog at the intersection with Chilowhee, but that is another option; easier from the appearance of things. I took a right onto Gazza (all of the trails are fairly well marked at intersections). This is the most challenging trail in the network. It is very (VERY!!) rocky and climbs more aggressively than the other trails.

This can be followed up to the high point where it reconnects with Bomb Dog. From here, it is a nice gentle (mostly) downhill back to the parking area. It involves portions of the Papa Bear and Mama Bear trails before getting back to the Baby Bear trail, which will take you back to your vehicle. Stay to the left on Papa Bear and Mama Bear if you want additional mileage. Staying to the right is more direct.
