Overview

This route is an easy-access but strenuous peak hike with rewarding views from Crested Butte's crown jewel mountain, Mount Emmons, commonly known as Red Lady.

Description

Start at the Elk Creek Trailhead on Kebler Pass Road. Hike up Elk Creek along the singletrack. This is called the "Gunsight Pass Trail." Follow it past the receding relics of the old Standard Mine to about 11,000 feet. Then contour easterly around a ridge before making the ascent towards Gunsight Pass. From the pass, it is a quick ridge-walk easterly to the broad summit of Mount Emmons, commonly known as Red Lady.
Along the route, make sure to pay attention to and respect private property signs and no-trespassing signs. It's good to bring along an app that shows you private property boundaries for this hike.

Flora & Fauna

Elk, deer, hare, birds, Aspen, Spruce, Fir, raspberries.
