Description

The Storybook Trail is located in Cordell Hull State Park and is part of the governor's initiative to "create enriching outdoor reading experiences for children and families to connect literacy with a fun, physical activity." The trail tells the story "Pup and Bear" by Kate Banks and Naoko Stoop which tells the story about a lost wolf pup raised by a loving polar bear. The trail starts on the left hand side of the parking lot and follows a wide, grass trail that is mowed into the grass.

There are wooden panels along the trail that have illustrations from the book, tell the story, and suggest activities for kids and parents to participate in together. The trail weaves through the area next to the parking lot and is an easy trail to follow. As the trail approaches the road, there is a good view of the Cordell Hull family home before it emerges back at the parking lot. In the spring and early summer, wildflowers can be seen along the edge of the trail. It is a nice trail for families who are looking to get outside and have an activity for everyone to participate in.
