Overview
This hike is a combination of 4 different trails to form a nearly 10-mile loop. The route spends a lot of time in the forest, but there are some sections with great mountain views and even a lovely high alpine meadow area. You'll have a good amount of elevation change, and also a short gravel road hike to complete the loop and return to the starting trailhead.
Description
This hike combines the Dallas, Corbett Canyon, Oak Creek and Silvershield Trails with a short gravel road hike to form a nearly 10 mile loop. The route features about 3,000 feet of elevation gain. Views are limited for much of the trail, but you'll have some great mountain vistas at times. Perhaps the highlight of the route is a beautiful high mountain meadow along the Corbett Canyon stretch of trail.
Begin at the
Dallas Trail off Co Rd 17. Parking is limited here. You'll then climb steeply with some decent views at first before disappearing into the forest. The trail may be a bit overgrown in areas as you continue.
Hike past the first junction with the Corbett Trail and continue for about another mile and a half until you reach the next junction with the Corbett Canyon Trail. Turn left and leave the
Dallas Trail. You'll continue to gain some elevation and enter a lovely aspen forest.
The trail crosses a rocky stream and then ascends to a beautiful mountain meadow, perhaps the highlight of the trail. Before long the Corbett Canyon Trail connects with the Oak Creek Trail. From this point it is all downhill.
The Oak Creek Trail descends until connecting with the Silvershield Trail which you'll follow all the way back down to the gravel road.
Unless you have arranged a shuttle of some sort you'll need to hike the road northward back to the
Dallas Trail where you first began.
