Need to Know

Backpacking & primitive camping permits are available at Savage River State Forest Headquarters.

Description

At the south terminus, the trail begins at a lot in South Savage Mountain Natural Area, a wilderness park near the Savage River Reservoir. The first two miles or so are a steep but manageable climb up to the ridge. From then on, the trail is fairly flat and well maintained. The trail crosses several country roads, however the general feel of the trail is quite remote for the region.

The trail is commonly backpacked: see the Need to Know section for details.
