Overview
The climb is a little steep but the views along the way to the caves are great and once you arrive, you'll get even better views of the surrounding hills.
Description
This trail, commonly called The Caves Loop, is a short non-motorized rugged trail in Cement Creek. It has very steep climbs and descents, and beautiful views.
Drive up Cement Creek Road 740 just a little ways to the Caves Trail parking area. The trail starts on the left on a singletrack in the trees. It's definitely steep and a bit rocky, but the views are great so just take your time.
From the top of the caves, you can spend some time looking around, enjoying the views, and exploring the caves. From there, you can descend back to your car, or you can keep going along the Walrod Cutoff Trail 418 until another junction where you turn right on Walrod Gulch Rd and take it back down to the road, there's a singletrack in the woods that parallels the road and will take you back to the parking area where you started.
This route offers really cool views of the caves and they are an awesome place to explore, you can even rock climb on them (check Mountain Project or onX Backcountry for details). This hike is also a great one to do in the fall, it displays really beautiful fall colors and once you get up high, it gives great views of the Cement Valley below you.
The loop should be about 5 miles with at least 1,000 feet of elevation
gain.
