Overview
This loop goes through aspen forests, past incredible viewpoints, up and down rocky terrain, and across meadows. It gives you a little taste of everything.
Description
Drive Kebler Pass to the Horse Ranch Park trailhead. There is a bathroom and plenty of parking space. This route pieces together pieces of different trails to give you a really beautiful loop hike.
The trail starts in an open field but quickly enters a really nice aspen forest.
This is a beautiful hike with great views on a clear day no matter what the time of year, however, when all of the aspens are changing to yellow in the fall is a magical time to be here.
After about 2 miles, there is a viewpoint on the left that shouldn't be missed. Just after that first viewpoint, there's a little rock trail on the left that takes you to an even better view. Tons of forests and mountains to see from here. The trail is pretty steep in some places.
The faraway views of mountain peaks and the close-up views of the trees and rock formations make this trail an absolute must-do.
Start on the Dark Canyon Trail, stay right at the junction around 2.6 miles and then you are on the Silver Basin Trail for a while, and then around 3.2 miles take a sharp right onto the Dyke Creek Trail, in a forest at about 4.75 miles, stay to the right at the junction to enter onto a piece of the Dyke Trail; at a little over 6 miles the trail pops out close to where you started. Take a left here to head back to your car.
