Need to Know
As of 9/10/23:
Preserve and trail: Preserve is an old girl scout camp which has been converted to a nature preserve and wedding venue in 2014. Trails remain under further development with obvious signs of new maps being added throughout the preserve. Some old trail blazing exists as arrows on posts from the old girl scout camp, however, not all of these blazes are accurate for the current trails and routing. Recommend taking a picture of the new map by the lodge parking lot and following this GPS mapped route.
Parking and restrooms: Trailhead parking is available in the gravel lot next to the lodge with additional parking further into the preserve. Old pit restrooms exist through the park and along trails, however, no longer appear to be maintained and serviced.
Description
Similar to the Inner Loop Trail, you'll descend to the valley floor and cross over the stream. The trail will take you past the tree house shelters, MacDonnell Lake, then leave the Inner Loop Trail to travel North along the fire break to Township Road 127, travel west down 127 and re-enter Myeerah Nature Preserve past the boardwalk wetland. This more secluded section of trail travels South along the West boarder of Myeerah Nature Preserve across streams and prairies and through hardwoods and pines. Look closely and you may see the remains of several old homesteads.
Flora & Fauna
As a nature preserve, you'll find several species of native hardwood and pine trees, natural wildflowers, and animals throughout the preserve.
