Description
Parking for this trail is a little tricky. Parking is available at Heart of the Canyons Church or on the street in front. if you plan your trip for a Saturday, you can pick up food after your hike at the farmers market that meets in the parking lot there. Cross Foothill Blvd. Watch for cars, visibility is difficult around the corner and people drive fast on this stretch.
Hike up Conover street FR2N95 which turns to dirt almost immediately and hike around a yellow closed gate. From here to the Hogfarm you'll be gaining most of your elevation on this hike. After the first stretch you'll pass a sharp turn on your left. you can proceed this way as it will reconnect with the trail further up- this is a slightly less steep option. the road will curve slightly to the right and after a few hundred yards, you'll encounter another split in the road.
Take a left onto the paved road. from here the road is mostly paved to the top and the Hogfarm. take your time and enjoy the views behind you of Angeles national golf course and Burbank/SunValley.
Spend some time snooping around the hog farm imagining the hippie lifestyle. The Manson Family purportedly used to hang out here from time to time. From the hog farm continue uphill and stay to the left on
Oliver Canyon Road FR2N94. the trail will take you on a ridgeline that overlooks Big Tujunga Canyon and Little Tujunga Canyon. you may hear some gunshots from the shooting range in Little Tujunga Canyon, but worry not, the range faces in a different direction and is a couple miles away.
As you reach the top. you'll notice some powerline towers to your left. once you reach the saddle near the powerlines you'll take a left on BP&L road FR3N36 and hike under the lines where the mountaintop is paved. follow the road down to the backside of Courtship Ranch. The rest of this hike is just returning to your car on paved streets and the horse trail along the right side of Foothill Drive.
Flora & Fauna
Many snakes, deer, coyotes, rodents, bobcats and other animals to be seen. birds flock to this area and the wildflowers here are stunning in the spring.
