This trail is for winter use only when snow covered.
Need to Know
During the winter, this trail is intended to be snowshoed or skied. Parts of this trail coincide with a snowmobile trail; watch out for snowmobilers.
Description
The parking area is at the end of Somerset Road, and it is a short 0.4 miles to reach the south end of the trail. The trail follows the road northeast past the picnic areas. Stay left, where the snowmobile trail turns right.
At the last parking area, the Catamount Trail follows the tread of the
Somerset East Side Trail. At three miles, a snowmobile trail crosses through this trail. The trail crosses from Somerset into Stratton, shortly before reaching a small view spur (on the left).
In a short distance from here, the trail crosses from the Great River Hydro property into the Green Mountain National Forest. It reaches a junction and turns right to follow
Pond Loop Trail. The trail passes both spurs of Campground Trail, then stays right on
Grout Pond East Trail.
Follow this out to Grout Pond Road and take a right. This section, of the Catamount Trail, ends at Kelley Stand/Stratton Arlington Road.
