Could have issues with water over parts of the trail if it has rained in the past few days.
Need to Know
No restrooms at this entrance, no fees, probably enough parking for 10 cars maybe?
Description
Very quiet and few visitors on this flat forest walk through scrub ecosystem outside of Cedar Key. Marked trailhead with a map posted, but trails can be very difficult to follow. Recommend bringing a map (or using an app) and noting where you are often to avoid getting lost.
While the trails are doubletrack, no vehicles are allowed, although bikes and horses do appear to be allowed. Some areas of the trail can be uneven as these trails double as fire breaks where they till the soil to remove vegetation above and below ground. When I was there, it hadn't rained in 6 days the trails were dry, but some stretches could be a foot or so of water if it has rained within the past week or so. Flat and hot! Much of it can be in the sun, but there is some shade to be found under the pines.
Flora & Fauna
I spotted a snake, birds, and a tortoise. There were signs of deer as well.
