Description

Starting from the playing field in Salento, drop down to the trail. On other apps you might see the trail starting elsewhere but flooding has wiped out the trail access in that area so this is the place to get to it. Getting to the trail will be likely muddy, but once on the trail it isn't so bad.

Starting from the playing field the trail drops down into the valley. It is a surprisingly beautiful trail. To be honest, it isn't really a trail. It is simply the way some who live outside of town access the town.

The trail drops and eventually bottoms out at a lovely river with bridge crossing. From there, the trail begins to climb. You begin to get views of the coffee plantations. At some point, the trail opens up to a full dirt road. Ugly and muddy in spots, but with great views.

Off of this current road through the coffee fields, there is a trail/dirt road to your right (as you are climbing). It is a good sign that there are warnings about slipping and falling. That always means there are good things ahead.

The trail/road does start off as a mess but pretty quickly becomes nicer and more narrow until it is simply a trail, passing a waterfall toward the bottom.

This trail will drop you onto a proper dirt road. Turn left here.

Though it is a road, it is dirt and goes through some absolutely beautiful terrain. It is like running on a forestry road from this point back to Salento. I also picked up a dog friend here who just loved to run. He went with me all the way to a junction with the coffee tour road a couple of miles from Salento.

Follow this particularly road down to the river. Once reaching the river, there is an option to turn left, over a bridge, or go straight, across a creek crossing. Go across the creek unless you want to add a lot of extra mileage, Continue on this road, with the river on your left. This road is less well maintained, but still like a forestry road. I found it to be a lovely stretch, particularly once you get into the forest.

This road continues until reach the junction of the road used for the coffee tours out of Salento. You'll know you've reached it because there will be activity there. There is also a gorgeous view of the river valley. At this point, take a right and continue the couple of miles back to Salento.
