Need to Know

Hikers share the trail with mountain bikers, horse riders, runners, and dog walkers.

Description

The yellow trail starts just to the left of the sign board in the parking lot and goes down hill through the forest to the far end of the fire road. As with most trails at Whitney State Forest the blazes on the trees are faded and can be tough to follow. Along the yellow trail there are numerous cut-offs to either side.

Left turns connect with the blue trail, while right turns go to the fire road. Just keep going straight to stay on the yellow trail, which (apparently) ends at the fire road (I have not see yellow blazes anywhere else beyond the fire road.) Three small stream crossings (the third likely dry except in the wettest times). After you reach the far end at the fire road, there are numerous options to make a loop back to the parking lot.

Turn right on the fire road and follow that back to the parking lot; turn left on the fire road and hike to the point where the blue trail crosses the fire road -- now you can turn right on the western perimeter segment of the blue trail, or turn left on the blue trail eastern perimeter segment. The yellow trail is 0.7 miles, and the various loops come in at about 1.4 to 2.0 miles round trip.
