Description
The Azalea Glen Loop Trail starts and ends Paso Picacho campground in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. The start point shown here is near the campground entrance and day-use area. A second trailhead starts at a small foot bridge near campsite 78 and connects connects the final 0.2 miles of the trail. The first mile is mostly flat. Once the trail meets with a small creek, it starts the mostly shady incline toward Azalea Spring.
The final half mile of incline has more rocks, less shade and is slightly steeper. The trail then joins the two track Azalea Spring Fire Road for the final tenth of a mile to Azalea Spring. Continue the loop by heading south about a hundred yards and the following Azalea Glen Road east and down toward the campground. About 0.6 miles down the road, the trail splits to the left and once again becomes a singletrack trail.
Flora & Fauna
Numerous ants and beetles cross the trail. Butterflies were near the creek. Various mountain birds were heard and seen throughout.
