This is a nice shaded trail through the palmettos that give name to the park, and along the San Marcos River.

Description

Very easy trail, can bring kids and dogs (on leash). The trail is shaded by trees for the whole length, so can be visited even in a hot sunny day.

There is a few access points to either see the river from above, or even hike down to the river.

There were many different birds among the trees, and in some sections it gets in the swamps where the palmettos grow.

Watch for snakes, I didn't see any, but there are warnings at the start of the trail.

Flora & Fauna

Palmettos, oaks, saw some cardinals and other birds I wouldn't identify.
