Description

Brays Bayou Greenway is one of the major urban trails in the Houston metropolitan area. It is actively (2022) being extended and improved. Construction blockages occur frequently and can be seen on the Houston Parks Board map at arcgis.com/apps/webappviewe…

Starting at Braeburn Glen Boulevard, the asphalt trail runs along the left bank to Gessner. This segment dates from before 1990 and includes a grade crossing of Bissonnett and Gessner. The bridge at Gessner moves the trail over to the right bank.

Continuing downstream, this section has four at-grade road crossings before moving back over to the left bank at Chimney Rock. The trail runs between the bayou and North Braeswood Boulevard to at-grade crossing under the west I-610 Loop. About one-half mile further on, there is an uncontrolled diagonal crossing of North Braeswood. Be careful of high speed cars at this at-grade crossing.

The trail then crosses back over to the right bank via the North Braeswood bridge. This segment has a mix of at-grade and underpass road crossings before moving back over to the left bank at Buffalo Speedway. This segment enjoys exclusively underpass road crossings.

Just downstream of Cambridge Street, the trail crosses back over to the right bank on a dedicated ped/bike bridge. Underpass crossings continue until an at-grade crossing of Scott Street. Connections along this segment include the Columbia Tap Rail Trail, the Bill Coats Bridge and the Almeda Access.

Continuing downstream from Scott Street, the trail moves back over to the left bank using the Martin Luther King bridge. Road crossings in the segment to Forest Hills Boulevard are exclusively underpasses.

The Forest Hills Boulevard bridge is used to move the trail over to the right bank. There is an at-grade crossing of South 75th Street and the trail currently dead-ends before the railroad tracks.
