Park entrance fees as of 2022 are $6 per vehicle of 2-8 people, $4 for single-occupant vehicles, and $2 for pedestrians or bicyclists.

The trail takes you around a lagoon off of the St. John's River and through multiple Florida habitats including scrub forests, pine forests, and hardwood hammocks. The trail may vary from dry to soggy and wet depending on the section of the hike and recent rainfall.

After the first half of a mile, there is a mile or mile and a half of fine sugar sand with pockets of sand spotting the remainder of the trail. This sandy section of the trail also has full sun exposure so sun protection and water are highly recommended; bug spray or repellant is also highly recommended.

The park service occasionally conducts controlled burns in the land surrounding the trail. At approximately one mile in, there is a large live-oak tree with a small bench under it for resting and at approximately 2.5 miles in there is a picnic table next to a hydrology station.

The trail ends in a hardwood hammock with a bench for resting and the bank of the St. John's about 20 yards away.

Florida scrub jays, Florida black bears, gopher tortoises, raccoons, and red-shouldered hawks.
