Description
Starting from the Southern point of the trail, the yellow-blazed
Quehanna Trail West Cross Connector leaves the
Quehanna Trail at Wallace Mine Rd., where it follows the road for a little while before making a left and meandering through the forest. After crossing Caledonia Pike, the trail skirts around the Shaggers Inn Shallow Water Impoundment.
Take a short detour down the road to check out the small lake. After crossing Shaggers Inn Rd., the trail follows an old logging road before turning back into singletrack leading to a nice overlook before heading down a steep mountain. The trail ends at the base of the mountain on Little Medix Rd. where it rejoins the orange-blazed
Quehanna Trail.
The West Cross Connector can be used to create a 19 mile Western loop of the
Quehanna Trail for a nice overnight backpacking trip or long day hike. It can also be used to create an Eastern loop of the
Quehanna Trail, which would cut off approximately 12 miles worth of hiking.
Flora & Fauna
Primarily travel through mixed hardwoods with a few pine and hemlock stands through the route. There is a potential to see deer, turkey, bear, and Elk.
