closed during and after rain until trail is mostly dry. This is a hike/bike trail.
Need to Know
Trail is hike/bike so be prepared to see some bikers out occasionally. Trail does close during and immediately after significant rainfall, so if the gate at the trailhead is closed, find somewhere else to run. They will give you a ticket for trespassing if caught on the trail during wet trail closures
Description
Starting at the new Linville River Trailhead, this longer section of the Fonta Flora State Trail mostly meanders through the mixed pine and hardwood forest of the Longarm penninsula as is it makes its way to the new bridge site (opening early 2022) over Lake James and entering into Lake James State Park proper.
Due to its length this section and lack of other trails in the area, the trail gets less use than the more popular
Fonta Flora State Trail: Fonta Flora County Park Section, making it a nice place for longer rides/runs with more seclusion. During the winter there are a few good views of the lakeshore and Shortoff Mountain after the leaves have fallen. The trail is very well-graded and is easily runnable throughout.
