There are no services along this trail, so make sure to use the restrooms in the parking lot before heading out on your hike. While the hike is short, if you plan on spending a lot of time out in the Badlands, then make sure to carry any water and food that you need for your trip.

The trail departs the boardwalk section of the Door Trail and wanders out into the Badlands, giving you an opportunity to get up close and personal with the Badlands formations. To access the trail, follow the Door Trail boardwalk almost to the end. There is a set of stairs on the right side of the boardwalk.

Descend these steps and then follow the yellow poles (marked with numbers) out into the Badlands. The trail winds through the landscape as poles mark the way. You can enjoy a variety of views that allow you to appreciate the ecosystem you have entered. The Wall is behind you, and you can get good views of the window. This is particularly beautiful as the sun sets in the west.

Off to the east, you can catch glimpses of the plains in various locations. All around you is the work of erosion. You can see the various rocks and dirt that make up the badlands, and see the different colors that represent different geological eras. At the end of the trail, there is a large sign that says "End of Trail." While you are here, take in the views before retracing your steps back to the boardwalk, and then back to your car.
