Overview
Riverside Preserve is a newer addition to the Fauquier County park system featuring access to the Rappahannock River for kayaks, fishing and picnicking. A marked trail offers a modest loop hike around the perimeter of the property.
Need to Know
The parking lot closest to the river offers only 6-7 spaces, including one handicap accessible, but a few more spaces are in front of the sign about half way down from the entrance, and it is also allowed to park along the road on the grass. Surrounding private property (including on the other side of the river) is posted, please do not trespass.
Description
This route starts from the small parking lot at the bottom of the dirt access road. The first part of the hike crosses a large field with wide trails mowed in the grass. At the far end of the field, the path continues in a loop through a wooded area, with a portion of the trail along the bank of the river. The loop can be taken in either direction. The hike used portions of shorter trails marked by several colors on the trees, but they have already faded significantly. Just stay on the trail and off of the adjacent posted private property!
