Need to Know
Some connecting trails require a ford of the Middle Fork and should not be attempted in spring runoff.
Description
Hike Marsh Creek Trail, a piece of the 1,000 mile Idaho Centennial Trail from Lola Creek Campground down to Big Hole, a giant eddie with big fish. From there you can continue north on the the Idaho Centennial Trail via the Middle Fork Trail #001 or go West to Fir Creek Campground and Bruce Meadows via
Bear Valley Trail #010 after crossing the Middle Fork. This area was 90% burned in 2012 so the sun exposure is a bit extreme but the views are wide open.
The trail is wide and easy-going with a handy bridge just 1.1 miles in.
Flora & Fauna
Much of this area is a regenerating burn area with small new conifers such as lodgepole pines, and grasses. Areas not burned have mature conifers and some underbrush with grasses. This is a very rugged area, with rocky steep sections having little vegetation. Deer live here.
