This trail is accessed from the parking lot of the Thermalito Forebay near the Aquatic Center.
Description
This trail begins at a trailhead on the shore of the Forebay, just below the Aquatic Center parking lot. First, it goes across the wooden bridge of the Forebay and heads up into the hills, which are usually green and grassy during the winter and spring and dry and brown during the summer.
The trail is a wide, paved road that loops around the hills for almost a mile before turning back towards the Forebay. Along the route, there are several signs with facts about the Forebay and wildlife in the area. The trail is very scenic, offering great views of Forebay waters which are still and blue on a clear day.
Flora & Fauna
There are several water birds, such as grebes, goldeneye, and red throated loons that make their home in the Forebay. Birds of prey such as hawks and golden eagles also inhabit the area. As its name suggests, rattlesnakes live in the hills and sometimes appear along the trail.
