Dogs Leashed
Description
Well established trail from the intersection with
Hemlock Trail with mostly gentle slope. Currently many people are turning right, directly downhill at the pipeline right of way. This is incorrect as the trail crosses the right of way and makes a loop without a straight downhill that avoids excessive runoff issues. The correct path adds very few feet to the trail.
There is a steep final section in the last few feet before it come out into the open area approaching the creek. There is an unimproved creek crossing and steep climb up the bank and then an open field to the park roadway. After crossing the roadway, the driveway to a area with just picnic tables takes you directly onto the remainder of the trail.
The trail just past the picnic table is usually wet and muddy. The trail is climbs and falls along the creek on the left with steep slopes on the right. At some point there is a connector trail to the Gorman Shelter. After the trail reaches about the level of the creek it also becomes wet and muddy before it shifts slightly right, climbs up to an old railway right of way and down onto the
Elk River Trail.
In the last year or so, the park has blazed this trail with yellow rectangles.
This trail/description should be integrated into the existing Eagle Scout Trail entry. Whoever initially entered it must have been unaware that the trail continued across the road and up to the intersection with
Hemlock Trail
