Need to Know
If you need water at the top, continue 200m past the goat track to the peak, where water can be found.
Description
Starts from the Old West End Cemetary.
Follow the marked route up castle hill via the Dianella Track. It's generally steep and rough, with uneven rocky stairs to climb.
About 600m in, you cross a large flat rock with good views to the West. Take a breather here, as the rest of the way up you'll be climbing a steep staircase up.
The stairs in this area have been formed with concrete, so they are at least consistent and stable.
When you reach the road, follow it up, feel free to stop for a break at the landscaped lower lookout. Then continue up the road to the Goat Track turnoff.
This is a busy section, popular with the city exercise crew. It's a series of nicely formed stairs down to the bottom. You'll then turn left onto the MaidenHair track, which is fairly flat and takes you back around the base of castle hill to your starting point.
