Description
Surveyed by George Washington in 1768. A cart road was first built along this 4.5-mile ditch and the canal dug with slave labor alongside for transportation.
The trail surface is natural (dirt, grass, gravel), and typically at least 6 feet wide. There is a raised center area along portions of the trail which may cause uneven cross slopes. The grade is gentle.
The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
