Overview
This trail features forested land, a section by the Oxbow lagoon, a view from Mount Baldhead, sand dunes, and Lake Michigan.
Need to Know
The parking lot has a fee during the tourist season. You could access the look from Mount Baldhead as an alternative.
Description
Starts in the middle of the eastern half of Oval Beach parking lot. It crosses a sandy area and proceeds through woods up a hill to the water tower (you may have to hike around fallen trees on the way). Then it goes NE down on a wide path, past an access road (it heads off to the east to Park Street).
The trail then heads west to the Oxbow Lagoon. It turns south and goes through some dunes, crosses the first section and heads ESE up a ridge to Mount Baldhead. From the peak it heads west along a ridge with sand dunes. There's a short, steepish section near Perryman Street, then it follows the street to the Oval Beach entrance. From there, follow the parking lot NNE to the starting point.
