Description

From the parking area near the Bayview Trail start, Bayview Trail is found by heading south from the parking area on Blue Springs Access Trail. After only a tenth of a mile, Blue Springs Trail is reached. Go left here onto Blue Springs Trail, and then almost immediately go right/south onto Bayview Trail at a trail junction marked by a trail signpost.

Now on Bayview Trail, after about a tenth of a mile, go left at an unmarked trail junction to stay on Bayview Trail. Going straight at this trail junction would take one to the Bayview Youth Camps on Bayview Youth Camps Access Spur. Then almost immediately there is a well marked trail junction that is the start of Redwood Trail - stay to the right and follow the signpost arrow to continue on Bayview Trail.

Bayview Trail is entirely in the pretty redwood forest with its dense undergrowth. The trail is on the west/ocean side of the Santa Cruz Mountains and Mt. Madonna. It runs on the hillsides that are the western slopes of Mt. Madonna. So the hiker has steep, densely forested terrain falling off to the west/right and rising to the east/left. Several seasonal streams cut steep sided valleys as they also flow down to the west.

A couple of side trails are passed - Sprig Trail at the 0.4 mile mark, and East Bayview Trail at the 0.9 mile mark. Although this trail is Bayview Trail, there is only one view of the bay/ocean (Monterrey Bay) that can be seen through the trees at about the 0.6 mile mark.

After passing East Bayview Trail, Bayview Trail continues in the redwoods and reaches the park boundary very near the road, at the 1.4 mile mark. The trail does continue for another tenth of a mile to emerge from the forest on the side of Hecker Pass Road/CA 152, at Hecker Pass - 1,309 feet.

Flora & Fauna
