Overview
This popular route captures the essence of Lemoine Point, and includes a nice hike along the windy shoreline as well as the forest interior. Trails are wide and gentle, good for families and dog walkers.
Description
Begin hiking
Trail 1 along the waterfront down by the shore, and pass a swimming area. The beach isn't great, but dogs and kids won't mind on a hot day! You'll follow the trail south along the shoreline of Collins Bay, and you'll see some nice views across the bay. It can get a bit windy here, and occasionally the first section of this route can get muddy or washed out.
After a little while, you'll enter the forested section of the trail and begin to climb a bit, but inclines on this trail are gentle. There are several benches along the shoreline where you can sit and look out over the water.
Once you get to the southern end of this park (around 2km), take
Trail 5 which will lead you back to the most popular trail segment. You'll see lots of well-fed squirrels and chipmunks, chickadees and other small birds, as you make your way back to the north parking lot.
Flora & Fauna
Lots of bold wildlife who beg for treats: fat squirrels and chipmunks, chickadees, woodpeckers and blue jays. Also, keep your eyes open for wild turkeys who live in the forest. Deer have occasionally been sighted here.
