Description
The Red Mountain Trail is a short, dirt track trail that climbs from the
Nutmeg Trail back up to the
Skyline to the Sea Trail. The trail departs the
Nutmeg Trail approximately 0.3 miles from the start of the
Nutmeg Trail. The trail climbs steeply up the hillside initially above the nutmeg trail on a wide track. At approximately 0.3 miles, the trail arrives at an old car that has been flipped over and painted over the years.
The trail cuts back on itself and climbs again up the hillside to where it meets with the
Skyline to the Sea Trail and a small parking area off of Highway 9. From here, you can follow the
Skyline to the Sea Trail back to where you started, or continue exploring the preserve.
Flora & Fauna
You'll encounter plants and animals found in oak forests. Oak trees provide shade during the hike. Ferns can be seen along the side of the trail. Deer and turkeys may be seen depending on the time of day that you are hiking. Mountain Lion warnings are posted throughout the preserve.
