Need to Know
While some portions of this trail are open during the summer, it's mostly for winter-use. Please watch out for snowmobilers and/ or ATVers.
Description
This snowmobile trail starts from Landing Zone 40 and runs eastward. In a short distance, you'll cross over the James M. Herbert Memorial Bridge and a small picnic area (on the left). The trail stays left, where the ATV trail turns right. Stay left at Cloutier Fuel Trail, along the main road.
At Nash Stream Road, the trail reaches Junction 82 and crosses over to Amos Emery Road. Follow the main road to the top of the hill and stay left. Here, the trail travels a thin line between Nash Stream Forest until you come to an orange gate. From here, the trail travels through the Nash Stream Forest property.
It runs along a wide woods road, offering a few decent views of Jimmy Cole Ledge. Along this section, there's also some machinery pieces labeled Pusey and Jones Company. Pusey and Jones was ship-building company that later changed to creating paper mill equipment.
The trail travels to the intersection of
Old Summer Club Trail and
Rowell Link and turns right (downhill). In a half mile, you'll pass by a small spur to the Devil's Rest Shelter. The Devil's Rest Shelter is a popular destination for those hiking the Cohos Trail. The trail continues its descent down to the
Lamphere Trail, then turns left.
The trail travels through an area of large jumbled boulders before coming out to
Bald Mountain Notch Trail. The trail turns right down to Junction 1294, then turns left. The trail arcs around the base of the hill and exits the Nash Stream Forest, at Mountain View Road. While the trail does continue on to Dummer Pond Road, it's mostly road-walking and not really hike-worthy.
