Description

The route actually starts out on a decidedly 4WD road, so much of it may be driven in the summer months when the gate is open. It is tame enough at first, but then leaves the ridge edge and starts steeply down the hill side.

Dirt may be loose leading to difficult footing. The official trailhead is beside a parking area at a small shoulder. The road below is permanently gated and narrow, but easier to hike as it descends the last 300 feet to the beach and Lost Coast Trail: North (Mattole - Black Sands Beach) below.
