Description

Cliff is an unmaintained (unmarked) though very easy to follow herd path. Once you make the 7 mile hike in typically done via the Calamity Brook Trail take the Mt. Redfield Trail for a couple hundred feet, there is a tree remarking which route is Cliff and which route is Redfield (sorta hard to spot). Take a right and the trail immediately gets really sloppily muddy for about 0.3 miles.

After that you'll reach a smaller technical sub blocky area to scramble over. There is 1 more smaller one and the next 3 require some technical moves that while aren't too difficult could prove dangerous. At a certain point you'll feel like you've peaked and the trail starts going down hill to the point where you feel like you've already peaked. Keep going to reach the summit until you reach the summit sign.

Near the top you'll get some views of Colden Mountain, Mount Marcy, and Skylight peaking behind the trees if you turn around. Not much of a view at the top, but if you want to get the ADK 46 its not a bad hike, and often done with Mount Redfield. It is a long day from the Upperworks Trailhead (just under 19 miles). There are plenty of lean-tos and camping spots on Calamity Brook Trail though.
