Overview

This route chains together the multiple Onteora Lake trails into one larger, but still very easy, route.

Description

Starting at the parking lot head out to the trailhead, first follow the yellow blazes (and signs) which will take you towards the right and southwards around the lake after about a mile on the trail. Follow the loop as it makes its way back north, at about 2.4 miles in (per my recording), you'll see signs and blazes for the Red EFT trail branching off to the right, follow it, keeping right at the fork at around 2.8 miles in—a sign should point you to the right.

After another 1/2 mile, you should see signs pointing off to the right to follow the blue-blazed trail, and follow it for a loop. I followed the blazes almost perfectly and my recording is quit a bit off of the mapped blue loop, I'm not sure why (either GPS error or potentially the route has changed).

Eventually you'll make it back to the Red Trail, at around 4.4 miles, and you'll go right to make the red loop. Keep sticking to right at all forks and you'll be brought back right to the parking lot!

There were a few places of steep terrain but overall mostly very easy.

We just did the Yellow Trail. Parked at the 2nd parking, about 1 mile from the Rt 28 entrance. A great, peaceful hike on a beautiful fall day. 3.9mi — 1h 50m

Swarms of insects surrounded us when we started and only got worse. We ended up retreating after half a mile

Gorgeous fall weather, and an easy trail! A few steep sections got the heart rate going but everything is extremely manageable. Should make a good run 7mi — 2h 40m
