This trail is a multi-use trail; please be aware of other users.
Description
This trail starts from the parking area off Airport Road, in Whitefield. It runs northeast to Waumbek Junction, and then turns eastward. There are many birding and sightseeing opportunities around the Cherry Pond area. It passes through the Moorhen Marshes and past the
Slide Brook Trail (on the right). It crosses over Route 115; please use caution when crossing here.
It runs past the
Castle Trailhead Parking area and continues northeast. It crosses over some of the other Randolph Club Trails as it continues northeast. It passes by the Appalachia Trailhead and runs eastward. It crosses over Pinkham B Road, where turning right will take you to Dolly Copp Campground. Just before crossing over the Moose River, look to your left to see remnants of (possibly) an old train station or hotel.
This area is protected under the antiquities act; please be respectful of the history. The trail runs a bit further into an area that's currently closed due to flooding. It continues following the Moose River, then crosses over it another time. It passes beneath Route 2, at a snowmobile intersection. It continues to the parking area off Route 2, in Gorham.
While the trail continues on (under the same name), this portion is for the ATV's. Bikers and pedestrians can still continue along this stretch, but you'll have to compete with the ATV's.
