Need to Know

Park pass required if you are stopping in one of the parks, even for a short hike.

Description

Parking is in a paved lot right beside the highway (park pass required). The trail is well-maintained and traveled but steep. It ascends quickly through forest to mid-hike views of waterfalls and the mountains across the valley/highway. After about 3.5km and over 800 meters of elevation gain, you reach a backcountry camping area (permit required to camp) with an outhouse, water source, and maybe eight or so tenting pads. There are excellent views looking south across the valley.

Ambitious hikers can proceed towards Hermit mountain for closer looks at the waterfalls or up the lateral moraine of the now receded Roger's Glacier to view the glacial bowl and remaining ice.

Flora & Fauna

Glacier National Park always has grizzlies although they are less common here than in the valley trails.
