Overview
Climb to the iconic peak visible from the Revelstoke town site. This route follows the
Mt. Begbie Trail to the camping area and then proceeds beyond via the climbing approach route to the toe of the Begbie glacier. Views are excellent once attaining the camping area but there are few, if any, good viewpoints between the parking area and the camping area.
Need to Know
No fees for parking. This is an extremely steep trail.
Description
The trail is well marked, for the most start, and starts from a parking area just off the highway going south from Revelstoke. Note that this trail is mostly forested until reaching the camping area, about 5km but almost 1,200 metres above the trailhead. At the camping there are good views, a water source, 3-4 tenting pads and an outhouse.
Continuing higher is largely route finding but the area is frequented by climbers so there are access trails throughout the rocky terrain. Without appropriate gear, one can only approach to the toe of the Begbie glacier...climbers with ice axes, ropes, and crampons can go further and one can sometimes hear them shouting from the summit of Begbie as they attain their goal.
Flora & Fauna
Steep forested mountain terrain. Watch for bears, as always.
