The park is a paradise for waterfall-lovers, and hikers, who enjoy hiking through volcanic landscapes.
Need to Know
Description
I started my hike at the camping ground in Hellissandur. First, hike to the south in the direction of the Snaefellsjökull Mountain. The trail is rocky and requires hiking shoes!
Once you arrive at the Eysteinsdalur Road, take the trail marked with posts to Rauðhóll lava fields. It is a short loop, which you can hike each way.
Back at the road, follow it to the Klukkufoss waterfall, where you pass impressive basalt formations. Next, you can cross the street to visit the Snekkjufoss waterfall. From the waterfall, hike through the rocky field back to the camping ground.
There are up to thirty-two official hiking trails marked on the map of the "Environment Agency of Iceland." All links in the "Need to Know" section.
